Starting the day by passing by Iceland’s largest geothermal power station/plant producing 700 MW of geothermal power, supplying Reykjavik with hot water and electricity.
Passing over the tectonic plate boundary, also known as the North Atlantic Ridge that crosses the country from southwest to the north east and is the reason for volcanic activity and geothermal energy in Iceland.

Mega Zip Line 
Driving through the small town of Hveragerði where the first stop of the day is, The Mega Zip Line.
Here is where you get the adrenaline rush of the tour.
Iceland’s longest Zip line 1 km/3- 4 miles long dropping 150 meters or 500 feet.

As this should have calmed you down a bit from The Zip Line, it is time for lunch as we backtrack to Hveragerði again, for lunch in the food-hall namer Gróðuhúsið og the greenhouse, as there where greenhouses and a florist where many Icelanders bought their garden plants until it unfortunately burned down in 2011.

ATV                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        From here the drive takes us to the town of Þorlákshöfn, where a bit more of adrenaline is pumped through your veins as you ride an ATV on the black sandy beach just by the waterline of the North Atlantic Ocean.

Raufarhólshellir                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Now it is time for the big WOW as we go to Raufarhólshellir also known as the Lava-tunnel.

Here it is time for some cave diving in a former lava-tunnel, where molten magma passed through in an eruption in the mountains around that happened some 5600 years ago.
This tunnel/cave is the 4th longest cave in Iceland and reaches 1360m or 4460ft down into the lava-field above.

As the tour comes to an end you will be dropped off at your pick up location or where you wish with in the city center.

Visit highlights of Iceland that include Þórufoss waterfall, Þingvellir National Park, Geysir geothermal area, and Gullfoss waterfall.

Þórufoss

Þórufoss is an 18 m (62 ft) high waterfall located east of Lake Þingvallavatn.

The waterfall makes up part of the 25 km (16 mi) river Laxá í Kjós which is distinguished for its healthy population of Atlantic salmon. The waterfall is less famous than its equivalents around the island and thus is not overly signposted.
Þórufoss is known to freeze over in the wintertime. Þórufoss was also used as a shooting location for HBO’s Game of Thrones as the home of the Children of the Forest.

Þingvellir National Park.

Where one of the oldest Commonwealth parliament was founded in the year 930 by the settlers of Iceland, also known as Vikings, although they were mostly farmers but also excellent artisans and shipbuilders
Þingvellir National Park was founded in 1930, marking the 1000th anniversary of the Althing. The park was later expanded to protect the diverse and natural phenomena in the surrounding area and was designated as a World Heritage Site in 2004.
Þingvellir became a national park due to legislation passed in 1928 to protect the remains of the parliament site, thus creating the first national park in Iceland. The park was decreed as “a protected national shrine for all Icelanders, the perpetual property of the Icelandic nation under the preservation of parliament, never to be sold or mortgaged. ”
The foundation of the Icelandic parliament is said to be the founding of the nation of Iceland, and the first parliamentary proceedings in the summer of 930 laid the ground for common cultural heritage and national identity. Thus, Þingvellir played a central role in the country’s history, and its history runs almost parallel with the history of the Icelandic Commonwealth.

At Thingvellir, it’s possible to see how the so-called Tectonic plates drift in different directions.
It’s one of the very few places in the world where one can dive in between the tectonic plates. The tectonic plates move apart at approximately 2.5 centimeters a year and have done for millenniums. The effects of this movement are apparent within the park. Lava fields fill the valley from magma that welled up as the continents spread, and the whole area is littered with ravines ripped open by centuries of earthquakes.
Earthquakes continue every day in Þingvellir, although most are far too minor to be felt. No volcano has gone off in the area in 2000 years, but they are not considered extinct. Therefore, more eruptions are expected; the question is only as to when.

Gullfoss

Gullfoss (translated to ‘Golden Falls’) is Iceland’s most iconic and beloved waterfalls, found in the Hvítá river canyon in Southwest Iceland.

A beautiful 32m/105ft high waterfall, cascading in two steps, down into a 20m/66ft wide and 2,5km/1,6mi long canyon carved by the wind and the water.

The water in the Hvítá river travels from the glacier Langjökull before cascading 32 meters (105 feet) down Gullfoss’ two stages in a dramatic display of nature’s raw power. This excellent site is seen by most visitors, as it is on our the Golden Circle sightseeing route.
Because of the waterfall’s two stages, Gullfoss should be thought of as two separate features. The first, shorter cascade is 11 meters (36 feet), while the second is 21 meters (69 feet). The canyon walls on both sides of the waterfall reach up to 70 meters (230 feet), descending into the grand Gullfossgjúfur canyon. Geologists believe that glacial outbursts formed this canyon at the beginning of the last age.
In the summer, approximately 140 cubic meters (459 cubic feet) of water surges down the waterfall every second, while in winter, that number drops to around 109 cubic meters (358 cubic feet). With such energy, visitors should not be surprised to find themselves soaked by the waterfall’s mighty shower should they get too close.

There was much speculation about using Gullfoss to generate electricity during the first half of the 20th century and some years into the late 20th century.
During this period, the waterfall was rented indirectly by its owners, Tómas Tómasson and Halldór Halldórsson, to foreign investors.
However, the investors’ attempts were unsuccessful, partly due to a lack of money. The waterfall was later sold to the state of Iceland and is now protected.

Geysir

Geothermal area, where you can visit one of the most famous geysers in the world, the one that gives its name to the phenomena of spouting hot springs.
Eruptions at Geysir can hurl boiling water up to 70 meters (230 ft) in the air. However, eruptions may be infrequent, and have in the past stopped altogether for years at a time
Research shows that Geysir has been active for approximately 10,000 years. The oldest accounts of hot springs at Haukadalur date back to 1294, when earthquakes in the area caused significant changes in local neighboring landscape creating several new hot springs. Changes in the activity of Geysir and the surrounding geysers are strongly related to earthquake activity
The nearby geyser Strokkur erupts much more frequently than Geysir, erupting to heights of up to 30 metres (98 ft) every few minutes. Strokkur’s activity has also been affected by earthquakes, although to a lesser extent than the Great Geysir. Due to its eruption frequency, online photos and videos of Strokkur are regularly mislabeled as depicting Geysir

Laugardalshöll arena

Laugardalshöll is a multi-purpose sport and exhibition venue found in the Laugardalur area of Reykjavík capital. The arena consists of two main venues, a sports hall and an indoor arena for track and field athletics competitions. Laugardalshöll arena is also where Bobby Fisher and Boris Spassky played a chess match in 1972.

Höfði House

Found along Reykjavik’s spectacular waterfront is a charming whitewashed house known as Hofdi House. In 1986, a major world-historical event took place when the presidents of Russia and the US, Mikhail Gorbachev and Ronald Reagan, met to end the Cold War. At Hofdi House, they effectively attempted to take the initial moves towards global disarmament.

Harpa Music Hall

Harpa is one of Reykjavík’s most remarkable landmarks and a heart of cultural and social life in the very heart of the city. Harpa is a tourist destination and an award-winning work of art that millions of people have visited since opening in 2011.
Harpa is home to the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, Icelandic Opera, and Reykjavík Big Band, which hold regular concerts throughout the year. Múlinn Jazz club also resides in Harpa and the Classical Sundays Series, both offering shows regularly.
Various music festivities have been held in Harpa since the house began in 2011, and world-famous music bands, soloists, dance groups, and theatre companies have performed here. In addition, Harpa yearly offers Upptaktinn, the children’s music awards, and the musical mouse.

Hallgrímskirkja Church

Hallgrímskirkja is a Lutheran church, found on top of the Skólavörðuhæð hill in the center of Reykjavík.
At 74.5 meters (245 feet) tall, it is the tallest church in Iceland, and its tower gives a spectacular panoramic scene over the city.                                                                                                                         The church was designed by one of Iceland’s most celebrated architects, Guðjón Samúelsson, who is said to have sought inspiration for his expressionistic design from elements of the Icelandic landscape.
The church took 41 years to develop, with building starting in 1945 and finishing in 1986. Outside the church stands one of the most important statues of one of Iceland’s most legendary Viking, Leifur Eiríksson, by American sculptor Alexander Stirling Calder; Eiríksson was a Norse adventurer from Iceland who discovered the continent of North America in the year 1000, more than half a century before Christopher Columbus.
The statue was a gift from the United States in 1930, on the millennial birthday of Iceland’s parliamentary body, the Alþingi, established in Þingvellir in 930 AD. Alþingi was the world’s first democratically elected parliament and is now located in downtown Reykjavík. The church’s tower is each day visited by hundreds of travelers who seek to enjoy its sweeping panorama of the city. The tower can be reached via a lift.

Perlan Dome

Perlan (‘The Pearl’) is a museum and rotating glass roof that stands on top of Öskjuhlíð Hill in Reykjavik; circled by the Öskjuhlíð park, it is one of Reykjavik’s most unique landmarks. The site was built on six water tanks that stored 24 million liters of Reykjavik’s hot water. Architect Ingimundur Sveinsson originally designed the construction in 1991; the hot water storage tanks that had stood on top of Öskjuhlíð since the mid-20th-century were modernized when the hemispherical glass dome was added on top.
The project was primarily curated by the respected politician Davíð Oddsson during his time as mayor of Reykjavik.
At night, the water tanks are ignited by floodlights that illuminate the building for all of the city to see. On top of the dome signals the airplanes flying to and from the nearby Reykjavik Domestic Airport.

Presidential Place Bessastaðir

Bessastaðir is the legal residence of the President of Iceland. It is also an important historic place that has played a leading role in the country’s history.                                                                            The property of Bessastaðir has a history that goes from the Age of Settlement. A significant number of visitors come to Bessastaðir each year, either by invitation or as tourists.                             Bessastaðir was first established in 1000. It became one of Snorri Sturluson’s farms in the 13th century. After Snorri’s assassination in September 1241, Bessastaðir was claimed by the King of Norway.

Drive-by a sculpture called the Sun Voyager, an ode to the sun, drives through the downtown harbor area.
